Budding Young Photographers in Kyrgyzstan

100 young people from disadvantaged communities in Bishkek are learning to express themselves through photography, using their cameras to explore and represent themes such as my world, friendship, respect, inclusion and diversity.  Thanks to support from USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives, these young people are benefitting from weekly lessons from professional photographers who then set them a challenge for the week.

Ruth Visick-Evans (from the Oasis Global team based in the UK) who visited earlier this month said,  “
It was exciting to be present for the first prize-giving ceremony and see the enthusiastic participation of all the young people, as well as some evident talent even at the beginning of the project. As the 10 winning photos on the theme of ‘Friendship’ were displayed, the professional photographers talked the group through what was done well and some pointers for future photos. It was great to see that the quality of the second week’s challenge was significantly improved as a result of this input and further lessons.”
