Digital Resolution Project in Kyrgyzstan
The Digital Resolution project is being run by Oasis Kyrgyzstan in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development’s Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI). Our goal is to train 100 at-risk youth (15-20 years in age) from the unincorporated settlements around Bishkek (Novostroiki) through digital photography, character development, and life skill lessons in order to make an impact in their lives and the lives of those around them by helping them engage in the community where they live. We will provide them with mentoring, technical skills, a broadening of their life experience, professional aspirations, and a sense of hope for self and community.
The project is 10 weeks long. During the first 8 weeks the participants attend a photography lesson and life skills lesson each week. Each Saturday there is an awards ceremony for the previous week's photography competition covering a theme that is assigned during the photography lesson (examples include "friendship", "the world around me", "my self-portrait"). The last two weeks will be preparation for a final exhibition of the students work as well as an awards ceremony in which the 5 final winners of the project are given netbook computers.
