Girl gets to go home after escape
Manali (named changed) a 21 year old girl from a middle class Indian family was tricked into marriage causing great humiliation to her parents and so her father hanged himself. Her new father-in-law tried to abuse her physically and her husband was unsupportive, forcing her to keep silent. After some months they were thrown out and moved to Mumbai. Manali’s husband was unemployed, lazy and used her for his entertainment. He would bring his friends home to watch X-rated films while she was present. This made them argue and her husband left, never to return. Manali was alone, vulnerable and harassed by local men.
Manali found work in a local shop and when she met an old friend and poured out her heart, her friend plotted to sell her into prostitution by promising a better job. Not having any other option but to believe her friend she went along to a red light area at Grant Road, Mumbai. However, when her friend didn’t get a good deal for her, Manali was kept in a hide-out, abused verbally and beaten up. One night a power cut meant she could escape to another friend’s house. This friend knew about the work done by Oasis India, through the Drop-in-Centre (DIC) at Grant Road. So they went there and after being counselled and completing the immediate formalities, Manali was placed at the Prem Kiran Home, Badlapur where she was provided with after care and her basic needs were met. The staff from the DIC conducted a home-study and after a few weeks Manali was repatriated back to her family. Regular follow up is being maintained by Oasis India to assure her security.
