Oasis 'Catch Up' programmes are designed to accelerate children's learning in basic English literacy and numeracy. The programmes are ideal for children who have missed out on all or part of their education and would benefit from accelerated learning in these core areas of learning in order to enter mainstream education or progress more quickly through the education system and achieve parity with their peers. The range of reading and writing skills in the programme provides students with a firm foundation to succeed in school situations where lessons are based on reading and writing in English.
The Catch Up Literacy Programme uses a phonics-based approach so that in 10 stages, children will have mastered the basics of reading and writing in English to enable them to integrate into mainstream education. This programme provides the following resources:
Teachers' Guide
- Basic training on how we learn to read and write, what a phonics based approach involves.
- Basic training ideas on how to manage interactive teaching methods and why and how interactive teaching works.
- Ideas for how to develop and adapt teaching materials to best suit your group's needs.
Teachers' Manual
- Baseline assessment
- Medium term planning which illustrates continuity and progression
- Approximately 150 adaptable lesson plans
- Resources for interactive teaching, games, and activities (picture cards, letter sound flash cards, reading flash cards, games boards)
