Step by Step is a resource designed to measure the individual progress of a child at risk. It is designed to be used by projects which aim to improve the child's present situation and future prospects through an holistic approach.
Step by Step measures the holistic development of a child according to the following dimensions:
- Health and hygiene
- Family or home
- Emotional and social
- Educational
- Spiritual and values
The tool consists of a set of questions that a key worker / social worker can methodically work through with individual children to assess their level of understanding and development in these areas. In addition, it provides progress charts to enable the project to easily track each child's progress and ensure staff follow up on issues identified through the reviews that need to be addressed. It therefore also helps projects to tailor their interventions in line with how the individual child is progressing. Finally, it provides a method of accountability to funding bodies and donors.
